Graduate Success Story: Demi Maynes, LA
We were so excited to check in with graduate success story, OMA Master Makeup Artist Demi Elise (Maynes), who earned her Master Makeup Artist certificate exactly one year ago (10/2018!). Our team traveled to LA to catch up with her and see what life has been like for her after graduation! Demi specializes in beauty makeup as a freelance artist, working for private clients, celebrity, editorial, and makeup application services (such as Glamsquad, etc). Prior to her deciding to pursue a career path in the beauty industry, she worked on the "other side of the camera" as an actress and model, as well as in the service industry, and production, which helped develop her passion and love for the professional industry and the dedication and talents of Makeup Artists.
She found the Online Makeup Academy as an option to pursue her professional education without having to quit her day job and go to a physical school - completing everything online was a main criteria for her.

If you are dedicated to what you want to learn you can absolutely learn online."How did she break into the editorial world? She put together her own photoshoot! Beginning to create a professional portfolio is key to breaking into the industry. Working with two models and a photographer, she set off to build her professional portfolio by creating a glamour makeup and creative makeup look that truly represented her professional artistry, and to date is one of her most memorable career moments, as it is when she decided to fully commit to her newfound career as a professional Makeup Artist (and the bonus? She still loves and uses those images to this day!).
Imagery can be timeless and when you have the opportunity to creatively direct and execute your vision into tangible photographs, it will become a key tool in selling yourself to new potential clients and industry peers!
After graduation and as she continued to pursue editorial artistry and professional makeup application with private clients, she decided to further pursue her career goals in the beauty industry and study Esthetics to receive her Esthetician license as a compliment to her Makeup Artist certificate, and to become an even more well rounded artist, focusing on both skin care and professional makeup. What is her ultimate goal? To open her own spa, so she can fully embrace her skin and makeup talents as not only a professional artist, but a physical business owner in the beauty industry.
Her biggest achievement? Getting paid to do makeup! "Having the respect that someone else wants to pay you for your makeup application and receiving call backs from the same clients. Establishing a relationship with my clients makes me feel really good that they are comfortable with me doing their makeup."
